Current areas of research are state and local development finance, regional economic development, economic analysis of natural resources utilization, watershed planning and modeling, and distributional impacts of utility de-regulation.  Recent professional activities include planning for sustainable development in the Manantlan Biosphere Reserve in western Mexico and analysis of the impacts on low-income households of the deregulation of electric utilities in Wisconsin.
