Prof. Harvey M. Jacobs travels to Rotterdam, Netherlands in early January to deliver lectures at the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies at Erasmus University. The lectures kick off a land specialization component for students in the Urban Management and Development master's degree. In addition he will give a program-wide lecture on human rights issues in land policy in developing countries.
The Department was saddened by the passing of John Bousfield, an early student of Urban and Regional Planning at UW-Madison, graduating from the program in 1953. As noted in his obituary, "John went on to become one of Canada's greatest urban planners. Until shortly before his passing, he practiced for well over fifty years in a full range of urban planning and development projects..." For the full article, please link here. 2nd Year URPL Workshop students are working with the City of Monona on studying Safe Routes to School. Their work was recently featured in the Monona newspaper here.
URPL first year master's students Ken Smith and Matt Miller together attended Habitat III in Quito, Ecuador. A story by Ken about their experience with BRT (bus rapid transit) was published as "Quito's BRT: A Model for Milwaukee" on the website urbanmilwaukee.com.
