Project Coordinator for Urban Food Production
The Project Coordinator for Urban Food Production will be responsible for the daily operation and/or coordination associated with the urban food production systems of the Urban Food Hubs pioneered by the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences of the University of the District of Columbia. The daily duties will consist of setting up seedling beds, planting seeds, transplanting seedlings to grow beds, harvesting and packaging plants and overseeing students and trainees in carrying out these activities. Daily activities will also include fish production procedures necessary to produce high quality fish in an aquaponics system. All operations will be done in accordance with standard HACCP and food safety plans, strict biosecurity measures, and standard operating procedures. The project coordinator will carry out these responsibilities at the aquaponics/ hydroponics facilities operated by UDC CAUSES and will coordinate activities as needed at the facilities operated by UDC CAUSES partners. Along with the daily duties mentioned above, the Project Coordinator will be responsible for all record keeping including but not limited to plant/fish harvest data, water quality data, and water use data. The Project Assistant for Urban Food Production will report directly to the Assistant Farm Manager or a designee of the Director of the Center and Manager of the UDC Firebird Farm. The successful incumbent will work closely with colleagues in the UDC CAUSES Center for Urban Agriculture and the Center for Sustainable Development, especially the ethnic crops, green entrepreneurship and green infrastructure specialists.
